Dannevirke Central Kindergarten

Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to
Dannevirke Central Kindergarten.

We have a homely, peaceful environment where whanaungatanga and manaakitanga are nurtured. We support our tamariki and whānau through heart-based practices.

We provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive space for all. We also have a playgroup on Wednesday morning in our whānau space, Te Whare Koha for under 3 year olds.

Relationships come first at Central Kindergarten. We work alongside whānau and tamariki to understand each child’s unique learning journey and their family’s aspirations for their learning, whānau are welcome at kindergarten any time and we have a sharing shelf in conjunction with the Food Basket in Waipukurau, to support our families with kai.

We are an Enviroschool and our tamariki learn to respect and care for our taiao (environment) through hands on learning; caring for our gardens and noke (worms). In line with our philosophy around taiao te tepu (garden to table), our tamariki learn to use produce from our gardens to make kai to share or take home. Our tamariki are learning how to be sustainable through rethinking, reducing, reusing and recycling.

We have trained, experienced teachers and support and mentor student Kaiako in their teaching journey. We embrace our bi-cultural curriculum, Te Whāriki and recognise that children learn best through play, having the freedom to explore learning through their interests, passions and areas of the curriculum they are drawn to.
